Pretty new necklace

So my last few days have been spent on the road. This time, I'm in Kansas City...again with the jazz band. I love those guys! So much talent around me everyday. I am thankful for this job and the people I'm surrounded by...even on the not-so-perfect days. I can't help but want to learn more, and soak up as much as I can. And I am in fact, doing just that. In addition to going on the road, I also started school this Monday. I am taking two online classes through Berklee College of Music...a theory class...because I am HORRIBLE at theory and a Jazz Voice...because I want to learn so much more about the music I love so much. So far so good. It's actually pretty easy so far....but of course I am still in Week 1...check in with me at Week 10 and see how I'm doing.

We had our first concert yesterday and it was strange. We were at a cool lil place that had a small pond-ish thing with a fountain in the middle....which was nice; that is until we found out that we were on one side of the pond and the audience was on the other. Check it out! Regardless of where we were though, they were a really great crowd and we had the best weather. A slight breeze and not too much humidity. Oh and NO bugs! That's the best part! Toward the end of the concert four ducks dropped in and were singing and waddling along to the music...it was too cute!

We had a performance tonight at a retirement village. I honestly didn't know that's what it was; the hall was so nice and large. It wasn't until we went to eat dinner and a crowd of older folks clapped for us as we paraded through their dining hall on the way to get our meals. They were quite a crowd tonight. Very responsive and even laughed at our jokes that we've been saying for such a long time. As Rick says "funny once, funny all the time." They were awesome. After the show I went out to shake hands and thank people for coming, and as people were winding down and leaving I met a woman named Mary Scott Hicks, who told me she served in the military for 25 years (very impressive) and was also the 1st cousin of the late Coretta Scott King (even more impressive). Here we are from tonight. See a resemblance between her and Ms. Coretta? I do. Talk about history!

So, I entitled my post "Pretty New Necklace" because I am so proud of my unique little find. This picture doesn't do the necklace justice. It's one of my favorite new things. The darker turquoise is sort of clear and the beads are a bit angular. The lighter color beads are almost a sea foam and have a smooth round texture. I just love it! Hope you like it too!

So that's a little of what I've been up...how bout you? How's your summer going? Vacation will be here soon and though it has crept up on me...I.CAN'T.WAIT!

Thanks for stopping by....
Keisha

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
