Home for the Holidays....
The past 3 Christmases were spent in Europe away from my family but surrounded by a family of friends. While I enjoyed experiencing Christmas in a new environment, I really missed my family. The first Christmas in Germany, Jason's mom and my mom came over and it was so nice. We got to spend time with them and some friends who had no particular place to be on Christmas. And for New Years that year, we took a trip down to the small town of PARIS! We all had a splendid time making such fond memories! The next Christmas was spent with a house full of friends making it a fantastic and special day also. And last year we spent Christmas together in Italy. On Christmas Eve, we were in Rome inside St. Peter's Basillica at the Christmas Eve Mass. It was incredible. The Pope was in plain view for all of us to see. It was an experience like none other. We then returned on Christmas mornng to receive the Christmas blessing in which Pope Benedict handed out in at least 10 languages. I had a splendid time! Well this Christmas is definitely destined to be great. We are spending it at our new home with all of my family. We are prepping our house to be filled with love and laughter, smiles and lots of full tummies! I am so excited and can't wait for what's in store.I found this questionnaire and thought I'd take it! Please, if you have the time....reply back with your answers (disclaimer: if you have little ones that still believe in the magic of Santa, don't let them read question 8). Happy Holidays everyone!
1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Mmmmm....Hot Chocolate, with peppermint syrup!
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? He sits them under the tree...hey already come wrapped;)
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? White all the way
4. Do you hang mistletoe? Oh yeah! Any extra chance to get a smooch is cool with me.
5. When do you put up your decorations? Usually the day after Thanksgiving, but since I haven't been home the last 3 Thanksgivings, it has been on or about the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish? My Mom's ovenbaked Mac 'n Cheese...
7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child? When I was 8 years old, I received my very first Holiday Barbie and I have received on every year since then. Each time I open that odd shaped box, I am brought back to my 8 year old self who beamed with happiness upon seeing that beautifully dressed Barbie.
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I learned about Santa when I was 8 years old. My Mom, sisters and I had just moved to the burbs and up until then, I had gotten nearly everything from Santa off of my modest request list. This year I hadn't. And while I appreciated every gift I'd received (I still remember one of gifts was a Jem doll, from Jem and the Holograms. She had crazy hair tha I loved and she was dressed to the nines in a hot pink dress and tall rocker chick boots) nearly none of them were from my list. No one told me that there wasn't a Santa, I just knew it, and it broke my heart.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Usually yes! A bit after midnight.
10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? Our tree is decorated with white lights, gold garland, and many red accents and ornaments that we've collected over the years.
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? Love it if I don't have to drive. Dread it if I do.
12. Can you ice skate? Yes a little bit. My first ice skating experience was when I lived in Massachusetts, I skated on the frog pond in downtown Boston.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift? Well as I mentioned before, some of my best memories were of getting my Holiday Barbies, but another fun gift I remember getting when I was little was from my sister Rachel. I was probably 5 years old and we were each going through opening our gifts and I opened one from Rachel. It was a small plastic Cabbage Patch Kid and while it was a modest little gift, I loved that doll. I even distinctly remember saying to her "Oh You Shouldn't Have!" Now what 5 year old says stuff like that?!? I was funny.
14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you? Honoring the birth of Jesus Christ. I am sure to give thanks for his birth. Also family is so important to me, so I like to also honor them even more on this day.
15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Sweet Potato Pie, warmed up with a dollop of whipped cream
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Of course spending a glorious time with family and eating!
17. What tops your tree? A gold star
18. Which do you prefer giving or receiving? I love to give. In giving, I am also receiving. The act of giving is far more rewarding than receiving.
19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? Nat King Cole's version of The Christmas Song
20. Candy Canes? Yes? No? Color? Yes Please! Classic Red and White
21. Do you feel Christmas is too commercialized? I do. While moet people still do celebrate the birth of Jesus, it has seemed to morph into this beast of how much we can all buy for each other. To me, it's about honor.....both to Christ and my family.
Thanks for stopping by,
Keisha

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
